What we treat
Conditions treated
Care across the conditions most commonly seen in outpatient psychiatry. If what you are dealing with is not listed here, it is still worth a call.
- 01
Depression
Persistent low mood, hopelessness, or loss of interest in things that used to matter. Depression is treatable, and treatment is effective for many people.
What it can look like
- Low mood most of the day, most days, for two weeks or longer
- Losing interest or pleasure in things you used to look forward to
- Sleeping far more or far less than usual, and waking unrested
- 02
Anxiety Disorders
Generalised anxiety, panic, social anxiety, and phobias. When worry stops being useful and starts running your day, it is treatable.
What it can look like
- Worry that will not switch off, jumping from one thing to the next
- Physical symptoms with no medical explanation: racing heart, tight chest, nausea, dizziness
- Panic attacks that peak within minutes and leave you drained afterwards
- 03
Bipolar Disorder
Mood that swings between elevated or agitated episodes and depressive ones. Getting the diagnosis right matters here more than almost anywhere else in psychiatry.
What it can look like
- Periods of unusually elevated, expansive, or irritable mood lasting several days
- Needing far less sleep than usual without feeling tired the next day
- Talking faster than usual, or thoughts moving faster than you can get them out
- 04
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Intrusive thoughts that will not leave, and the rituals done to make them quiet. OCD is treatable, though reassurance alone tends to make it worse.
What it can look like
- Unwanted thoughts, images, or urges that intrude and cause real distress
- Rituals done to reduce that distress: checking, washing, counting, arranging, repeating
- Mental rituals that are invisible from the outside: reviewing, praying, silently reassuring yourself
- 05
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
When something that happened will not stay in the past. PTSD is treatable, and treatment does not require you to describe the worst of it before you are ready.
What it can look like
- Intrusive memories, flashbacks, or nightmares of what happened
- Avoiding reminders: places, people, conversations, or anything that brings it back
- Feeling constantly on guard, startling easily, scanning for danger
- 06
Schizophrenia
A treatable condition affecting perception, thinking, and motivation. With consistent treatment and support, many people work, study, and live independently.
What it can look like
- Hearing, seeing, or sensing things that other people do not
- Holding beliefs that others find hard to follow, and that feel completely certain to you
- Thoughts or speech that become hard for other people to track
Not sure where you fit?
You do not need a diagnosis, a referral, or the right clinical vocabulary to make an appointment. Plenty of people arrive able to say only that something is wrong. That is enough to start, and working out what is actually going on is part of the job.
